The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President, Phyllis Thomason, who served as chair of the meeting. On motion made, seconded and passed, the reading of the minutes of the last meeting was waived. The minutes of that meeting will be on the club’s web site. Secretary Jack Hardin presented in writing proposed amendments to the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws (attached), which had been proposed earlier and which will be voted upon at the next General Meeting. Bruce Zamanian of Premier Property Tax Service described the process for protesting ad valorem tax valuations by the Harris County Appraisal District. An award for extraordinary volunteer service to the Civic Club was presented to C. Patrick McIlvain, by President Phyllis Thomason, who also announced that an annual award will be made in the future which will be called the ‘C. Patrick McIlvain Extraordinary Volunteer Award’. We split up into small groups to identify neighborhood concerns and then reconvened and briefly discussed Parking, Crime, Railroad, Parks, Citizens Patrols, Streets and Infrastructure, and other concerns identified by the groups. Patrick McIlvain reported that a Washington On Washington Parade will not be
held in 2008, but that he expects one will be held in 2009. He also mentioned
that the W.O.W. group which helped finance the roundabout at Westcott and
Washington is still raising funds to install artwork there. Treasurer, Michelle Wolpert, gave the Treasurer’s report, and we are still solvent. As of the end of 2007 our treasury had increased by about $3,000 over the previous year. The next General Meeting is scheduled for 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at the Doris Miller Center. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm. Respectfully submitted, |
