Rice Military Civic Club – Minutes of General Meeting held April 11, 2007 at Doris Miller Center

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by President, Phyllis Thomason, who served as chair of the meeting.

On motion made, seconded and passed, the reading of the minutes of the last meeting was waived. The minutes of that meeting are on the club’s web site.

Treasurer, Michelle Wolpert, gave the Treasurer’s report, and we are still solvent, and there are about 180 members signed up so far this year.

President Phyllis Thomason reported on the progress of the Caceras subdivision, where the builders report storm and sanitary sewer lines have been installed and water lines are currently being installed. The plan is for a fence around the entire property, a park-like hub in the center near the size of a football field, and homes to have white stucco and tile roof construction.

Newsletter editor Jennifer James reminded us the next newsletter deadline is May 2nd, and that news items can be emailed to news@ricemilitary.org.

Juanita Eagan announced a May Wine Group meeting at her home, and Michelle Wolpert announced the Book Group would be discussing A moveable Feast by Hemmingway the first Wednesday in May. Jennifer James reminded us that the Kids in Household Group is meeting Friday morning.

National Night Out will be held August 7th 6-9 pm. Olivewood Cemetery clean up is scheduled for April 28, with a May 5 rain date.

Two candidates for City Council, Noel Freeman and Tom Nixon, were present at our meeting. Super Neighborhood 22 will have a candidate forum for all the candidates standing for the open City Council position, and residents were reminded to vote in the May 12th special election.

Bret Bosker of the Houston Bar Association spoke about Jury Duty, reminding us that it is both a duty and a privilege to serve on a jury when notified.

Roland Delacerda and Sharon Broadnax of City of Houston Parking Management Division spoke about parking regulations and stated that a targeted enforcement effort will be made in the coming weeks in the Rice Military area, starting with warnings and escalating to issuance of citations and towing where justified. Roland can be reached at (713) 853-8275 to request enforcement.

The next General Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at the Doris Miller Center.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted, Jack Hardin, Secretary
