Rice Military Civic Club – Minutes of General Meeting held January 10, 2007 at Doris Miller Center

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by President, Phyllis Thomason, who served as chair of the meeting.

On motion made, seconded and passed, the reading of the minutes of the last meeting was waived.  The minutes of that meeting are on the club’s web site.

Treasurer, Michelle Wolpert, gave the Treasurer’s report, and we are still solvent, and had net receipts above expenditures for 2006 of about $1,300.

Jack Hardin reported on the Citizen Watch program, sponsored by the Houston Police Department, which was initiated in Rice Military last year.  Jennifer James asked for articles to be published in the next newsletter to be sent by early February to her at news@ricemilitary.org, and reported on the Kids in the Household group.  Lisa Walter reported on the community garden at Nellie Keys Park.  Michelle Wolpert reported that the book group is reading Midnight in Sicily, and those interested could contact her regarding meeting times.  Patrick McIlvain reminded us of the Marathon Hoopla Station activity on January 14 and the Washington on Washington Parade scheduled for 10 am March 3.  Peggy Moore announced that a Rice Military social will be held February 6 at Mardi Gras Grill, and there is a planned Rice Military group outing to the Houston Symphony on March 16.

Lee Bergman reported on his meeting with Council Member Holm’s staff and other information about his survey of railroad crossings and the quiet zone application process, and was asked to provide his full report for posting on the web site.

Tom Dornbusch of the Woodcrest Neighborhood Civic Association and Linda Mercer, the Cottage Grove Civic Club liaison to Super Neighborhood 22 and president of the White Oak Bayou Association, discussed City of Houston anti-graffiti efforts (to report graffiti, call 311), landscaping and parking issues, railroad quiet zone plans, and current activities of those other civic groups.

President Phyllis Thomason announced that the next General Meeting will be held on April 11, 2007, at 7:00 p.m., at Doris Miller Center. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Jack Hardin, Secretary
