Rice Military Civic Club – Minutes of General Meeting held October 18, 2006 at Doris Miller Center

The meeting was called to order at 7:15 pm by President, Juanita Egan, who served as chair of the meeting.

Treasurer, Michelle Wolpert, gave the Treasurer’s report, and we are still solvent. On motion made, seconded and passed, the reading of the minutes of the last meeting was waived. The minutes of that meeting are on the club’s web site.

President Juanita Egan mentioned upcoming events, including the next General Meeting to be held on January 10, 2007, at Doris Miller Center, and the Holiday Party to be held at Urban Living on December 5. 2006.

Vice-President, Lisa Murray, reminded us we are part of Super Neighborhood 22, and proposed that we have a speaker from that organization to talk about the proposed railroad overpass at Shepard, Durham and T.C. Jester at the next general meeting.

Outreach Chair Patrick McIlvain promoted the Washington on Washington Parade which is set for March 3, 2007, at 10:00 am.

Newsletter Editor Jennifer James stated that the next newsletter deadline is November 3.

An election of officers for 2007 was held. The following officers were elected: President – Phyllis Thomason, Vice-President– Lee Bergman, Treasurer– Michelle Wolpert, Secretary– Jack Hardin.

A presentation from the HPD Environmental Unit was given by Sylvia Brumlow, discussing neighborhood protection from illegal dumping. The 24-hour telephone number to report illegal dumping is (713) 525-2728. Ms. Brumlow also mentioned that HPD provides free seminars and funds for school environmental projects, and that it is the responsibility of contractors, not the City, to remove their trash.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm.
